I) Corruptions of Westcott-Hort compared to the original manuscript.

In this comparison, the English Majority Text Bible translation will represent the Masoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Majority Text of the New Testament. The New International Version will represent the Westcott-Hort.

Address The English Majority Text translations from the Masoretic Text and the Majority Text The New International Version from the Westcott-Hort and the Alexandrian texts Note
1. [01] Genesis 27:39 39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above. 39 His father Isaac answered him, “Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above. Verse 39 in the two translations are completely opposite.
2. [01] Genesis 49:21 21 Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words. 21 “Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns. Some Westcott-Hort translations do put a note here saying “he utters beautiful words”, showing they do know about this error, but they didn’t know which one is the original text.
3. [10] II Samuel 21:19 19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew (*) of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. 19 In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jair the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod. In the original text, the verse only said that he slew of Goliath, without telling what specifically. However as we compare with [13] I Chronicles 20:5, we can see it stated clearly “Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath”, so many translations added “the brother” here to make the meaning more apparent. But some translations rendered this as “Elhanan killed Goliath”, which is false. The one who killed Goliath was king David. The later edition of the NIV seems to have fixed this error.
4. [19] Psalm 12:6-7 6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
6 And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.
7 You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked.
The extremely important promise of God to preserve His Word intact has been altered into another meaning by the Westcort-Hort.
5. [23] Isaiah 14:12 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! 12 How you have fallen from heaven,
morning star, son of the dawn!
“Morning Star” is a name of the Lord Jesus ([27] Revelation 22:16). The Westcott-Hort gave this name to Lucifer.
6. [27] Daniel 3:25 25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. 25 He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” Is Jesus a son of multiple gods or The Son of God?
7. [01] Matthew 1:25 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
8. [01] Matthew 3:4 4 And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locust beans and wild honey. 4 John’s clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. (*) Interestingly enough, this word “ἀκρίς”, can be rendered both as “locust” and “locust bean”, and according to this humble translator’s research, turns out it is “locust bean”, not “locust”. To be fair, the taste of this bean sucks, but it is very nutritious and a “complete” protein, containing ALL the amino acids that the human body needs, including methionine, which locusts usually lack (thus if John the baptist was eating locusts instead of locust beans, he would be in severe malnutrition, or even dead).
9. [01] Matthew 5:22 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca (*), shall be in danger of the council (**): but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. (*) “Raka” means “empty”, “worthless”, used to express contempt.
(**) “Sanhedrin” is the highest Jewish council.
10. [01] Matthew 5:37 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. “πονηρου” means evil in general, or wickedness. The Lord was teaching about being upright.
11. [01] Matthiew 5:44 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Westcott-Hort removed a huge portion in the saying of Jesus compared to the original Majority Text.
12. [01] Matthew 6:13 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Westcott-Hort missing the entire second half of the verse.
13. [01] Matthew 6:27 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
14. [01] Matthew 8:2 2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
15. [01] Matthew 8:29 29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
16. [01] Matthew 9:13 13 For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 13 For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
17. [01] Matthew 9:18 18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. 18 While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”
18. [01] Matthew 10:3 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
19. [01] Matthew 11:19 19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children. 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
20. [01] Matthew 13:51 51 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord. 51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked. “Yes,” they replied.
21. [01] Matthew 15:8 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 8 “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
22. [01] Matthew 16:3 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
23. [01] Matthew 16:20 20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
24. [01] Matthew 19:9 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
25. [01] Matthew 19:17 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
26. [01] Matthew 20:7 7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. 7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered. He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
27. [01] Matthew 20:16 16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. 16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
28. [01] Matthew 20:22, 23 22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered.
23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”
29. [01] Matthew 23:8 8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master (*), even Christ; and all ye are brethren (**). 8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. (*) Kathegetes: the master or teacher of the highest rank in a religion, kinda like the “head-master” of some sort. Its root word, hēgeomai, means “lead”, and was translated as “governor” (or “leader”) in [01] Matthew 2:6. This “kathegetes” word only appeared 3 times in the whole Bible, once in this verse 8 and twice in the below verse 10, showing very clearly that the possition of supreme authority in the church belongs to Christ and Him alone, no one is allowed to take it to himself.
(**) In the Lord, teachers are not forbidden. But while teaching one another, we do so as brothers admonishing one another, with each person always willing to listen and learn to receive the instructions the Lord sent, even through the very brethren that were taught by us.
30. [01] Matthew 23:10 10 Neither be ye called masters (*): for one is your Master (*), even Christ. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. (*) See note in [01] Matthew 23:8 (*) above.
31. [01] Matthew 24:7 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
32. [01] Matthew 24:36 36 But of that day and hour knoweth (*) no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (*) Note that this word is usually translated as “know”, but it can also be understood in the sense of “make known”, like in [07] I Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined not to know (make known) any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” The translator would like to clearly note this out for dear readers’ references.
33. [01] Matthew 25:31 31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
34. [01] Matthew 27:24 24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. 24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
35. [01] Matthew 28:9 9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.
36. [02] Mark 1:6 6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locust beans (*) and wild honey. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 39. [02] Mark 2:17 17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.

3 Give us each day our daily bread.
4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”
Westcott-Hort was missing too many words, making the prayer in [03] Luke 11 vastly different than the prayer in [01] Matthew 6.
78. [03] Luke 11:11 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?

94. [04] John 1:1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with The God (*), and the Word was God (*). 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (*) The first “God” word is “theon” and has a definitive article “the” before it (ton), so it has to be understood as referring to a specific being: The God. The second “God” word is “theos” and was deliberately put there by John without any definitive article before it, to differentiate it from the first word, so it has to be understood as referring to a “kind”, and not a specific being like the first word, even though it could be understood as referring to the God of the Bible in other places where it wasn’t placed in such direct contrast with another “the God” word. This is equivalent to say: “Eve was with The Human (Adam), and Eve was human.”
95. [04] John 1:14 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (*) The only begotten Son. Westcott-Hort omitted a very important word that confirms Jesus to be literally begotten of God.
96. [04] John 1:27 27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
97. [04] John 3:13 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.

(*) The only begotten Son. Westcott-Hort omitted a very important word that confirms Jesus to be literally begotten of God.
100. [04] John 4:42 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. 42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

He did the same with the fish.

[04] John 6:39 39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.
104. [04] John 6:47 47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.
105. [04] John 6:69 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”
106. [04] John 8:9 9 And those hearing, being convicted by the conscience (*), went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. (*) The Alexandrian texts were missing the part “being convicted by the conscience” compared to the original Majority Text manuscripts, which is so critical in revealing that the Lord had just done something that made these people realize their sins. Thus, many scholars believe what Jesus wrote on the ground was a list of sins of these very people, from the eldest unto the least.
107. [04] John 8:10 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

109. [04] John 8:59 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
110. [04] John 9:4 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.
111. [04] John 9:35 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

114. [04] John 13:23 23 Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. 23 One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.
115. [04] John 16:16 16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. 16 Jesus went on to say, “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”
116. [04] John 17:5 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

[04] John 17:12 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
118. [04] John 17:21 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
119. [05] Acts 2:30 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.

[05] Acts 3:13 13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
122. [05] Acts 3:26 26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. 26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
123. [05] Acts 7:30 30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. 30 “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.

[05] Acts 17:26 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.
128. [05] Acts 20:28 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of the Lord and (*) of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. The Westcott-Hort, together with many faulty manuscripts, lacked “of the Lord and” compared to the original Majority Text manuscripts, causing the word “he” in the next clause to switch into referring to God instead of Jesus, changing the meaning of the verse.
129. [05] Acts 20:32 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
130. [05] Acts 23:9 9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God. 9 There was a great uproar, and some of the teachers of the law who were Pharisees stood up and argued vigorously. “We find nothing wrong with this man,” they said. “What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?”
131. [05] Acts 24:6-8 6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

6 and even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him.

138. [06] Romans 11:6 6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. 6 And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

195. [16] II Ti-mô-thê 4:22 22 Chúa JESUS Christ ở với tâm linh con. Ân điển ở với các bạn. A-men. 22 Nguyện xin Chúa ở cùng tâm linh con! Nguyện xin ân sủng Chúa ở cùng anh chị em!
210. [21] I Phi-e-rơ 4:1 1 Vậy, khi Đấng Christ đã chịu khổ vì chúng ta trong xác thịt, các bạn cũng hãy trang bị với cùng một tư tưởng ấy, vì người chịu khổ trong xác thịt thì ngưng khỏi tội lỗi, 1 Vậy, vì Chúa Cứu Thế chịu khổ trong thân thể, hãy trang bị chính mình anh chị em bằng thái độ như thế, người nào đã chịu khổ trong thân thể được dứt khỏi tội lỗi;
A-men.
A-men.
A-men. A-men.

[03] Lu-ca 4:8; 17:36; 22:43,44; 23:17.

[04] Giăng 5:4, 7:53-8:11 (nguyên cả trích đoạn 12 câu).

[05] Công vụ 8:37; 15:34; 23:9; 24:7; 28:29.

[06] Rô-ma 13:9; 16:24.

[15] I Ti-mô-thê 6:5.

[23] I Giăng 5:13.

II) Errors of the Textus Receptus (of the English King James) compared to the Majority Text.

When translating the King James over 400 years ago, the translators back then hadn’t found the 5.000+ manuscripts of the Majority Text that we have today, and they had to make do in many places because they had so few manuscripts to determine which rendering was the original text. But now these spots, where in former times had only a few manuscripts, now have more than enough, and thanks to that we can now determine the original rendering.

The comparison chart below will list down a few most critical errors that affect doctrines. Note that besides these, there is also the error in [05] Acts 20:28 that has already been presented above.

Address The English Majority Text Bible translated from 5.000+ Majority Text manuscripts The English King translated from the Textus Receptus (1611) Note
1. [23] I John 5:7-8 7 For there are three that bear record:
8 the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three are one.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
Eramus – the compiler of the Textus Receptus for the translators to translate into the King James afterwards – couldn’t find a single Greek manuscript that has this “Comma Johanneum” (added text of John) and had intended not to put it in. But the Catholic church – even though they could provide only one manuscript that dated even to the XV century (Codex Montfortianus – GA 61) – had used their position of power to force Eramus to put it in. And he did. Nowadays we can confirm that this added text really was added, nowhere found in the Majority Text manuscripts.
2. [27] Revelation 5:14 14 And the four creatures said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped. 14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever. The worship here was being offered to both the Father and the Son. (him that sitteth upon the throne and the Lamb – verse 13)
3. [27] Revelation 14:1 1 And I looked, and, behold, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his name and his Father’s name written in their foreheads. 14 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. The Seal of God is the name of both the Father and the Son in the “forehead” – a correct knowledge of God and His Son in the mind. This knowledge would then manifest itself out into other visible signs.
